Battlefield 3 Open Beta

September 29.  Uhh what?  Just a quick FYI to everyone who isn’t up to speed on the different between betas and demos, but a beta is a work in progress and there will not be any significant difference between the game released on Sept 29 and the one that comes out October 25.  If  the game hasn’t’ already been wrapped up and shipped (physical copies), it will be soon.

I wonder if we’ll ever see the word demo again.  Apparently its tone carries too many connotations that are more closely centered around a finished product than a beta.

  1. Yeah, not a beta. IDK why nobody can tell the difference anymore, maybe it’s just a way to persuade people who don’t like the demo that the full game might be different – there’s a whole world of money between someone not liking your game and someone buying it and not liking it, after all.

  2. Flapecake is right. When people see the word ‘beta’ they’re more likely to believe that the game will be different on release, and therefore are more inclined to purchase it, even if they didn’t enjoy the beta. Things might have changed, after all.

Who knows. Maybe they will use data from the beta to fix things- they’ll just release it as DLC.

  8. I propose this form of glorified demo henceforth be known as a ‘master beta’.
