"The poster children for limiting consumer choice are Activision, Electronic Arts and THQ, with each company offering 50 percent as many titles as they offered several years ago, with only one new intellectual property launched among the three companies over the last year," he says.

It's a sad state of affairs when even Yahoo is aware that gaming sucks right now.

Exactly. Hopefully sites like this can grow large enough to stop this.

I don't really think THQ should be on that list. Aren't they having money problems? That' more than likely why they never change their games, no one wants to go to them.

But they're still pretty big (although I would've expected 2K there). And the EA stock is going down too since the start of this year, with rumours of the CEO getting kicked out.

But the article gives one cause for the drought of new games: console generation gap. New consoles are expected in 2013 and 2014 and the current generation lacks good integration of new features and is heavily outdated hardware wise. So I don't think they want to invest too much in new IP's and technology that pushes the current generation to it's limit, especially when franshises like CoD are still bringing in the big money like Waldodude said. If you want new stuff, seek out the indie games, although a lot of them are artsy fartsy gimmick games instead of pushing solid game mechanics to the limit in combination with creativity.

The real problems will start if the new consoles dissappoint, because I don't think they'll make a switch to the PC . Instead, they'll most likely start to focus more on mobile gaming and free2play (which is already happening now).
